Getting Rid of Junk When Moving

Moving house is the perfect time to take a look at all your possessions and try to declutter before your moving date, having less to move makes the whole process easier and potentially cheaper. If you are downsizing, it is even more important to declutter making the most out of your new home.

Makeup boxes and bags for items that you will want to throw away or donate, go through everything and ask yourself if you really need to keep them, if you rarely use something, or haven't used it in a while, that might be a sign to get rid of it.

Donating Unwanted Items

Most local charity shops will accept a wide variety of items from walk-ins, but it is worth checking with them before turning up. Most of these charities run based on community donations and are there to help great causes.

If you have large pieces that local charity shops can't take or you are unable to transport them, British Heart Foundation and Sue Ryder both offer collection services.

Another great way or giving your unwanted possessions a new life is by using sites like Freecycle or using Facebook pages to find your pieces a new home.

Selling Unwanted Items

You can consider selling some items if you have the spare time to organise and make it worth your time. If the item is in decent condition, it could be worth some amount of money. Not sure of somethings worth? Have a look at auction sites such as eBay to find similar items and see what they are priced at. If you have loads of small priced items, it may not be worth selling them individually consider donating these.

Binning Unwanted Items

For items that cannot be reused or refurbished, and after exhausting all other options. Rather than throwing them into your rubbish bins, consider visiting your local waste collection site or tip to see if what you have can be recycled.

If you have too much rubbish to fit in your own car waste collection services are available.
